FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A Barboursville resident is facing charges for allegedly stealing opioid medications and forging records.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports Michelle Collier, a nurse at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women, is accused of possessing a Schedule II drug (oxycodone) and committing forgery on a “count sheet” used by the prison to track the distribution of medications.

Collier, the nurse responsible for administering pills at the prison, was indicted in December after other nurses noted that medications were missing in March 2023.

Court records show that as of Jan. 26, Collier pleaded not guilty at her arraignment, but there is another hearing scheduled for May 9 that is described as a plea hearing, so Collier may be changing her plea.

Court records also show a one-day jury trial is scheduled to begin on May 10.

The Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women has been in the news in the past regarding issues with health care for inmates.

In 2016, the prison was ordered to improve care following a civil suit that was filed by prisoners in 2012.

More than 900 women are housed at the facility, and while reports have found some progress toward improving care, there are still issues.
