ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Southwood neighborhood took advantage of the spring weather for their own block party with Habitat for Humanity.

Neighbors, and members of the nonprofit came together to celebrate the growth of Southwood since Habitat for Humanity purchased the land back in 2007. Now, nearly two decades later families are moving into their new homes and getting to know their next-door neighbors.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville President Dan Rosensweig says the bond built within Southwood is what sets them apart from other communities.

“We are more than just a house. We are a home with a community around it. So, it is really important to us that when people come together and live together, they truly do it intentionally and share their destiny together,” Rosensweig said.

Southwood’s first developments village one of eleven will become the home to 80 families, 35 being Habitat homes, 14 being affordable rentals and 35 as market-rate homes.
