CHARLLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- People of Charlottesville have lined the streets Saturday morning for the 75th annual Dogwood Parade.

“It's really cool to see all their cool tricks and that they took time to do this and get all this cool stuff out here,” a parade spectator said.

This year’s parade featured 60 floats from all over the community. School marching bands, first responders, and even our neighbors at Putt Putt Family Center in Rio all took part in the parade with the theme, all things green.

Felicity Taylor got to chat with the participants as they moved through Market Street.

“We are very excited; we always love this every year. We have been doing it for 30-40 years now so it's a fun day,” Putt Putt Fun Center participant said.

The Charlottesville Dogwood Foundation has been putting on events to raise money for scholarships for local students and provide help to families in the Charlottesville community.

One of this year's sponsors was Martin Hardware.

“This is one of my favorite events all year. I've been in a lot of them and seen a lot of them so the fact we get to sponsor this is really exciting for us,” Martin Hardware participant said.

WTJU kept the energy high with their float featuring their mobile studio.

“We use it to record some people's stories out on the town and sometimes we just use it to bring the party,” WTJU said.

And even some familiar faces made an appearance and practiced their candy throwing skills.

“It's the best day of the year, happy Dogwood Day,” Morning Anchor Brenna Kiefner said.

“Delaney, how much candy have you been throwing?”

“You know, I think I have thrown a good amount. I have been working on the throwing,” Morning Meteorologist Delaney Tharp said.

But if you missed out on the fun don’t worry, CBS19 covered the annual event, and you can check out the full parade broadcast on our website.
