NELSON COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- An upcoming celebration and dedication ceremony will mark the completion of an expanded playground at an area community center.

The Rockfish Valley Community Center says the celebration will take place at 3 p.m. on May 5.

According to a release, this event will make the latest installment of a series of recreational equipment and other improvements at RVCC over the past several years, including last year’s expansion of its solar energy production system.

Other projects have included the relocation of the SK8 Nelson skatepark, the completion of the mobile stage of the Blue Mountain Pavilion entertainment complex, and the installation of the new wildflower meadow in partnership with the Nelson County Master Gardeners.

The new playground has been named for Jim Crowley, a longtime supporter of RVCC whose work was instrumental in arranging support for the playground and skatepark projects.

Some finishing touches are still being installed at the playground, including a multilevel climbing and sliding complex, new swing sets, musical play features, a play tunnel with a bridge, and more.
