GREENE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Greene County Public Schools in Stanardsville were briefly put on modified lockdown Friday morning.

Officials report a backpack was found on the property, not in a school building, that contained ammunition. There was no weapon.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office investigated and determined there was no threat to students or staff.

At this time, there is no word on anyone connected with this investigation.

The lockdown was lifted about half an hour after it was issued and school activities returned to normal.

GCPS says parents may see an increased law enforcement presence in the area.
