ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Criminal complaints give new details and context to the domestic dispute that ended in a house fire and arrest on the highway.

Jacob Pope is charged with attempted malicious wounding, child endangerment and arson.

Police say Pope's estranged wife and their child were in the home on Secretarys Road Thursday morning when the wife said she heard an engine revving quickly and then a loud crash.

She said she then saw Pope get out of his car that had crashed into the house, wielding a metal baseball bat. Then, she said he smashed the window of the house where she was holding their child.

She said there were gas tanks in the car and it caught fire. The fire quickly spread to the house.

Pope's wife told police Pope never went inside to check on them and he just ran away as soon as the fire started. She added that they had been arguing for two weeks and he was living in his car.

Pope has not had a bond hearing yet.
