CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Students at Jackson-Via Elementary saw their dreams take flight with a visit from the Virginia Department of Aviation Thursday.

The department brought an Icon A5 plane right in front of the school.

The A5 is an amphibious airplane, meaning it can take off and land on both land and water.

Students got to go inside the plane and learn how it flies.

"The things on the seat that you can move, they move the part of the wing to help steer the plane. I'd never seen a plane do that before and I thought it was pretty cool," third grader Alana Renshaw said.

The visit was a part of the department’s introduction to flight program. The students who saw the plane could go for their pilot's license in eight years.
