FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- AQUA Virginia has submitted a new proposal for a rate hike to the State Corporation Commission.

The new rate proposal would call for a revenue increase of $5.49 million, which is noticeably less than the $6.9 million hike that the company asked for.

If approved, this would give people a smaller rate than what they started paying in February, and would mean a refund for those customers.

Nearly 2,250 individual comments, along with a petition with 539 signatures, were filed with the SCC in this case, with Fluvanna County residents providing the majority of the comments. In addition, Congressman Bob Good submitted comments on behalf of Tom Schauder of the Lake Monticello Owners' Association on March 13.
