WASHINGTON (CBS19 NEWS) -- A mother from Charlottesville who was accused of child sex crimes has pleaded guilty in a federal court.

On Wednesday, Eleanor Hoppe pleaded guilty to distributing child pornography in a plot to molest a young girl.

She was arrested at a motel in Warrenton in March 2023 after she went there to meet who she thought was a father with an 8-year-old girl they were going to abuse.

In actuality, the person Hoppe had been talking to online was an undercover FBI agent.

Leading up to the arrest, Hoppe sent the agent pornographic images of a child.

She was originally charged with distribution of child pornography coercion and enticement of a minor and attempted transportation of a minor with the intent to engage in sexual activity.

As a part of her plea agreement, she was only convicted of distribution of child pornography.

Under the plea agreement, Hoppe will spend more than 11 years in prison and then serve 10 years on supervised release.

"So what I always ask the jury or the judge, I said you sentence this person to as long as you think to ensure this person will never do it again," said Louisa Commonwealth's Attorney Rusty McGuire. McGuire has over 20 years of state and federal experience prosecuting child sex offenders.

He said Hoppe's sentence is the standard for these cases.

"Children are our most precious resource, right, they're to be protected. Right, protect their innocence we often use as a theme in these cases, these this person steals the innocence of a job, right? How can you recover from that?" he said.

Hoppe will also have to register as a sex offender for at least 25 years.

A judge will officially sentence her in September.
